Flu virus with 'pandemic potential' found in China – BBC

While the world is yet struggling to handle the coronavirus (COVID-19) impacts the BBC came out with another worrisome news during the early Tuesday morning in Asia. The update relied on scientific research suggesting a new strain of flu that could become pandemic was found in China.

Key quotes

A new strain of flu that has the potential to become a pandemic has been identified in China by scientists.

It emerged recently and is carried by pigs, but can infect humans, they say.

The researchers are concerned that it could mutate further so that it can spread easily from person to person, and trigger a global outbreak.

While it is not an immediate problem, they say, it has "all the hallmarks" of being highly adapted to infect humans and needs close monitoring.

As it's new, people could have little or no immunity to the virus.

Market reaction

It seems that the global traders are waiting for further details before acting on the news. Meanwhile, the market’s risk-on, or say risk reset, continues with the S&P 500 Futures marking 0.305 gains around 3,055 by the press time.
