Canada, US reach outline of NAFTA deal - Globe & Mail

Canada and US negotiators have reached the outline on a North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) deal but were waiting for an approval from the US President Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, according to Globe & Mail.

Mr. Trudeau convened a 10 p.m. Sunday night cabinet meeting at his office and will meet the cabinet again at 11 a.m. on Monday to discuss the deal, said two government sources.

Four sources said the two sides were hoping to finalize the deal overnight with an announcement Monday.

Three sources said that under the agreement the US would remove tariffs from Canadian steel and aluminium and guarantee that the Trump administration will not impose tariffs on most auto imports from Canada.

Canada would accept a quota system that would place stricter limits on the export of Canadian-made vehicles into the U.S. market, said two sources.
