Research Team at RBS, suggests that after reaching an 11-month high in August, the US Conference Board consumer confidence index likely slipped in September.

“The data already reported for September by the University of Michigan, Bloomberg and IBD/TIPP showed a flattish-to-slightly weaker performance. Even so, overall trends in most measures of consumer confidence have been mostly moving sideways over the past few months. As usual, responses concerning employment will be closely scrutinized, particularly ahead of the payroll report the following Friday, October 7. This survey of consumer confidence tends to be the most closely correlated with employment conditions, since two of five survey questions concern jobs.”
