US stocks close mixed after choppy session

US stocks closed mixed following choppy trading in global equity markets as investors took a step aside ahead of the upcoming BoE's monetary policy decision.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 0.13% higher at 18.372.12, while the S&P added 0.01% to 2,152.43 but the Nasdaq Composite lost 0.34% to close the day at 5,005.73.

DJIA technical perspective

“Technically, the daily chart shows that the index has managed to post a higher higher and a higher low while developing well below its moving averages. In the same chart, indicators head north near overbought levels, in line with the macro view,” said Valeria Bednarik, chief analyst at FXStreet. “In the 4 hours chart, the Momentum indicator keeps diverging lower, but the RSI holds within overbought territory and the 20 SMA heads north below the current level, indicating a limited downward potential.”

Support levels: 18,313 18,262 18,214. Resistance levels: 18,425 18,480 18,550.
